We may be hiring soon, so drop us a line if you’re interested! Your application need not be elaborate, nor perfect.
Are you a US citizen or permanent resident?
Not required, but makes visas and in-person work much easier.
What traditions (e.g., self-experimentation) do you have to draw on, in helping us invent an art of rationality?
We aim to invent a new art of rationality — something that incorporates Bayesian reasoning, the heuristics and biases literature, etc., but that is more usable, more thorough, and just generally better. Please tell us anything you can about why you are well-positioned to help us. (Do you have background with quantified self? Meditation? Practice changing your own or others’ habits? Tell us about anything like that — erring on the side of inclusion.)
What sort of teaching and/or tutoring experience do you have?
Include all subjects you might have experience with — math, martial arts, meditation, social/productivity skills, everything.
How much math/stats do you know?
Have you read the core Less Wrong sequences?
How familiar are you with Kahneman-style heuristics and biases research, or other cognitive science?
Please list your scores on the SAT, GRE, and similar tests (if you have taken them), as well as any contests you have done well in.
Include contests of any sort — math, chess, writing, public speaking, anything. Relevant tests could include LSAT, MCAT, subject tests, etc.
Tell us about your charisma, social adeptness, public speaking skills, writing skills, and other evidence that you can inspire people to learn material and become awesome.
Resume-type stuff is good; but random personal impressions, things friends have said about you, a story about yourself, etc. is also fine.
How are you at making people feel relaxed/comfortable, helping people feel liked and cared about, and helping to build a community that cares about its members?
Again, resume-type stuff is good; but random personal impressions, things friends have said about you, a story about yourself, etc. is also fine.
Please list jobs you've held, degrees you've earned, and your GPA in those degree programs.
List anything else you want us to know here.
Feel free to leave this question blank.
